Attention span: 10/10 Puzzle mode is great. Controls: 8/10 Cursor moves a bit fast. Implementation: 9/10 Superb. Overall: 9/10 The large size is worth it.
Based on a Game Boy game of the same name, Tetris Attack is perhaps the best new TI-82 game in a long time. This game has nothing to do with Tetris. That being said, it is a puzzle game kind of like Yoshi. You need to align 3 or more of the same type of block in a row to make them disappear. Your cursor will switch the location of two blocks.
The implementation of this game is absolutely wonderful. The graphical interface and password system are very nice. The title screen is cool (Gee, I wonder which programming group wrote this game). The game itself is awesome. There are two modes of play: Endless and Puzzle Mode. Endless mode actually ends pretty quickly, and it isn't much fun. It requires skill or a lot of luck.
The fun mode is puzzle mode. It has 60 levels (I think). The first twelve or so teach you the basic Tetris Attack strategies. The last twelve will really rack your brain. I literally emailed the author, Brandan Sterner, to try and get a hint on how to beat a certain level. It was very addictive, and it took about a week to finish.
No game is without faults, though. It is rather large in size. The cursor moves too fast, which makes endless mode a bit more difficult that it should be. Overall, I would suggest keeping this game on your calculator always. I can pick it up at any time and play puzzle mode to see how far I can get in one sitting (where's the fun in writing down passwords?) |
