Title Shift
Description Is the ceiling the floor? Is the floor the ceiling? SHIFT is a unique puzzle platformer based off the Flash Game. In SHIFT, there is no such thing as solid ground, what you may be standing on top of one second, becomes empty space when you SHIFT. With this original concept, 10 built in Levels to start, and a Powerful Level Editor, SHIFT is an excellent puzzle platform game.

Note! This review was written for a previous version of this file!

first off, i'd like to say that i've been following alex's work in basic for some time now, and have learned a good deal of what i know from studying his source codes. he consistently produces basic programs with amazing graphics and great attention to detail.

that being said, there are still several areas where this program could use improvement...

originality 9.5/10

ok, so he didn't actually come up with the original concept, but the way he went about emulating it, like all of his programs, using methods i never would have come up with myself.

difficulty 5/10

all the levels included so far are limited in number and fairly simple to solve, but that's because, as the readme states, he was rushed to complete the game, and the inclusion of a level editor does much to remedy this.

user friendliness 5/10

the jumping lag is one of the most frustrating things in any game i've ever played!

overall 6/10

this prog show much promise, but still isn't worth the effort of downloading and playing. while waiting for improvements, why don't you go check out some of his other games? (portal is highly recommended)

possible improvements: i haven't actually looked at the source code yet, but im fairly certain the jumping problem could be fixed by using xLib's multiple arrow keypress capabilities, thus allowing simultaeneous jumping and movement. also, the xLib readme needs to be updated; sprites can be drawn from any of the 255 allowable pics, not just the first 9 as it says, so the sprite/tile pic could be stored in a higher position, thus freeing up 0-9 for pure basic.
