This game has the best graphics that I have seen on a TI-84+SE. The gameplay itself is fun, challenging, yet simple enough that a bcan play and that it doesn't require a walkthrough (like zelda and metroid games do if you really want to do good). I beat this game in about eight or nine hours the first time, and in about six hours the second time. It has excellent replay value.
Overall 10/10 |

One of the best games for the TI 83+.
Storyline: 10/10
Original, space age, very nice. I played it at night, and I was scared. Very, very nice.
Gameplay 8/10
If you miss something, you have to wander around and find it, otherwise, it's very good.
Replay value 0/10
It's a mystery, there's no point
Graphics 10/10
Wow. These are jaw-dropping.
Memory 9/10
It's big, but it gives you hours of play time. It's worth it. |

I don't know if anyone else remembers the old King's Quest series, or Myst, but even though there was no battle in them, they were still fun. The story line and puzzles were what made the thing.
Desolate is the same thing. The mystery is excellent, and there are many features/items for a high score chart!
The only complaint I have, is that the menu is extremely painful to use, and could use an update. But otherwise, I would strongly encourage a sequel!
Speed: 9/10
Great speed, except in the menu
Gameplay: 9/10
Great puzzles
Replay: 7/10
No cheating, though.
Graphics: 10/10
Different flicker modes for Calcs
Resources: 8/10
Excellent for the gameplay
Overall: 8/10
Really good game, if you like puzzles/mysteries. |

Desolate: the game that has some horrible faults balanced out by some great graphics and a storyline that compares to computer games.
Controls: 7/10
Unless you set the interrupt frequency to 6, the keys are so unresponsive it makes the game almost unplayable. Also, I hate the fact that there is a look/shoot button and a switch button instead of a separate look button and shoot button.
Graphics: 10/10
To put it simply: godly.
Gameplay: 9/10
Puzzles are pretty nice, as are some of the secrets, but the AI is very simple and some of the puzzles can get quite repetitive.
Storyline: 10/10
Simply amazing: too bad it was kind of short.
Replayability: 8/10
You are probably going to play this twice or three times through to be able to get the the alternate ending, but after that there is no real fun in playing the game again.
Size: 9/10
Though it is kind of large, you can easily run it from the archive. That is, unless you have a million programs on your calc that bring it down to 22kB of free RAM when everything is archived.
Overall: 8.8/10
A very nice game with some good graphics and a very good storyline, but the gameplay mechanics kind of disappointed me. Nevertheless, I recommend downloading this game. |

Desolate is definitely a game that you should download. The grayscale is absolutely perfect. I have to admit that the game was very challenging, but I did beat it in just one day.
Graphics: 10/10 Replayability: 9/10 Story: 8/10 Easy-To-Use: 9/10 Memory: 10/10 (Just make sure you have as much free RAM) Overall: 36/50 (72%)
This game is truly a game that you have to have on your calculator. So download this immediately!

Desolate is one of the top-of-the-line games available that run under MirageOS - get it, play it, play it again later on. Why include another review when the others say it all? Just to mention that this has some graphics action and still meets lunchbreak criteria. While you must clear most rooms of antagonists, once this is done, you can safely take that bite of sandwich, sip of milk, and then journey on.
Graphics: 10/10 Lunchplay: 7/10 Day to Day: 8/10 |

Desolate is a great game. It has wonderful graphics with perfect grayscale. It is very interesting to play, but it is sometimes difficult to find your way through the rooms; I often end up going in circles. But this game is definitely worth the download. However, the memory usage is outrageous! I forgot how much it takes, but if you dont have an SE I wouldnt bother with it.
Replayibility-7/10 Graphics-10/10 (perfect grayscale) Memory Usage-1/10 (its outrageous) Overall-9/10 |

Graphics: 10/10 I haven't seen another game that has better graphics than this game! When I saw the pics preview, I couldn't believe it.
Gameplay: 8/10 It can get very exciting; however, there are so many rooms that it can be easy to get lost. Plus, after you kill an enemy in a room, it reappears! Another downside to the game is that the enemy could be right next to you when you enter a room. Besides the downsides, the good thing is that if you die, you restart at the first room with full health, and everything you accomplished, like the items and unlocked doors, doesn't go away,
Other: There are no weapon upgrades, so you're stuck with the same one. As I said before, it's easy to get lost.
Overall Rating: 9/10. |

Desolate is a grayscale TI-83 Plus and 84 family game. The graphics are incredible, but the overall gameplay was not that great.
Controls-- 2/10 The controls are very choppy; you'll find yourself with jammed fingers after trying to get a button to work. Plus [2nd] is both the gun and the examine button, so you might end up dying because you forgot to switch functions.
Graphics-- 10/10 Very good! Incredible 4-level grayscale and good sprites give this game a great look.
Bugfreeness-- 4/10 This game crashed my calc 4 times!
Story-- 8/10 Okay story bit too linear; unless you have the code you can't go anywhere. |

I was quite excited when I downloaded Desolate. Unfortunately I was a little disappointed by the game.
The graphics, I admit, are superb. The sprites and the grayscale make this look like a professional game. However, it doesn't play like a professional game. It runs extremely slow, even on my friend's ti84+, and to get any playing in at all you need to set the interrupt rate to a level which hurts the graphics.
The storyline was good (you are a clone stuck in a dying spaceship filled with aliens - a point for originality) but the gameplay didn't live up to that standard. It was a little boring going endlessly from room to room looking for passwords.
Overall: 4/10 - don't bother. |

Desolate may sound really good and I respect what effect the author tried to do, but I think it really lacks in some areas. I seen the graphics, besides on the screenshots online, because runs so slowly on my calculator. I don't know if there are bugs or what, but this game is so large because of the grayscale and unbelievably slow, that it took two full minutes to load the title screen. The interrupt frequency setting was a little confusing and it wasn't really preferable to me or the other people I know who have tried this game. It was a great attempt at a great game, but in my mind, the size, speed, and non-playability made it fall short.
Rating: 5/10 (download it if it really sounds good to you)

Desolate is the best RPG game for the calculator ever! Instead of featuring on the past the way most RPGs, Desolate focuses on the future. It's a great change!
Graphics: Grayscale, semi-three dimensional, realistic. There's not much more that you may want. 15/10
Gameplay and Storyline: Complex storyline and suspenseful gameplay, with high replay value. Replaying the game using your stats saved from the first game actually creates a different game! 15/10
Speed: Unfortunately, the grayscale is very slow, even when the interrupt frequency is set to 6. 5/10
Size: That unfortunately is also a problem with Desolate. It is 30 KB large (ouch!). 5/10
Total: 40/40. Rating: Perfect! Go download this game today! |

Desolate is the ultimate calculator game! The grayscale is incredible, and the graphics are awesome. The file size is large, so large it takes two programs to make it run! So keep at least 23 KB or so for your free RAM. Also, the second program is hidden so you don't have to see it when you go through MirageOS or Crunchy OS. Desolate has great gameplay and a great storyline. It provides hours of fun! Just make sure to press [6] for the interrupt frequency, or the program will run incredibly slow. It also includes a cool ending with awards for how well you did during the game.
This game is an absolute must have for your TI-83+(SE). It requires CrunchyOS or MirageOS to run.

Graphics: When I first saw screenshots of Desolate, I was amazed by its cool looking graphics. Due the use of Duck's Grayscale Package it uses the best flicker less grayscale engine around. The author put some time in drawing the sprites! Nice little effects like blood or scratches on the wall and objects lying around on the floor making the rooms different from each other. Points: 10/10
Gameplay: The gameplay is superb. There are a few adventure games on the calc, but none of them have as good story as this one. If you play it, you will get sucked into the game from the first to the last moment! A small downside is the enemies in the game. With a rather simple AI, they are not much of a threat. Also, the key detection is a little slow, so you have to hold down the key for a couple of seconds before it will recognize it, but this is because the grayscale uses most of the speed of the calc. Points: 9/10
Other: Besides the fact that the game has superb graphics and gameplay, it also has a replay value. After beating the game you'll get three awards. The challenge is to play the game again and get the best awards to see the extended ending. Another thing that impressed me was the fact that there are some items hidden which can be found throughout the game to get a little more of the story. Points: 10/10
Overall: After playing the game three times already, I would say that this is the best game ever for the calc. Just download it, and you will agree with me. For every programmer/game developer: Make your games like this author did for Desolate! Overall Points: 29/30 |
