"Jet Blaster Mach II," or just Jet Blaster 2 if you prefer, sounds exactly like every "Cave Blaster" clone in the world. This stereotype absolutely fails for Jet Blaster 2. It takes the age-old formula of having the player blast their way through obstacles to safety, and adds a spin with the addition of the shop. The player receives unlimited lives, so eventually you can buy stuff in the shop with the money you pick up. The things you can buy are also well thought out. Besides the standard shield and cannon upgrades that have been commonplace, you can make your ship move quicker, or buy missiles or boosters to destroy those pesky metal blocks.
This is the sequel to the original, and many changes for the better have been made, such as the addition of mines, which adds a whole new level of technique to the game. It might be a tad frustrating for an average gamer, but almost anyone can enjoy this jewel in the dust. The game is well programmed; Mr. Cherry uses the extgraph library in addition to some customized sprite functions, and organizes his code very well. Now, I can tell you that when I come back from spring break, I'm going to walk into class and practice my jet blasting skills instead of learning covalent bonding for the nth time!
