Who would've thought that a game like "Gran Tourismo" could actually be true to the series in a calculator version? This is exactly what is accomplished in this addicting calc game. Just like in other GT games, there are a variety of different car brands that all include many different makes and models, and once you've purchased your first car, you can buy a number of upgrades to help it perform better. The best thing about it is that the developer didn't make every car the same; each car really does have different handling, acceleration, speed, etc. The graphics are incredible and the driving flows smoothly on the screen, and the gameplay is deep and provides hours of playtime. This is by far the best calc game I've played, because it really feels like a deep console game. This is a must download that doesn't take up much space.

GAME NOTES: This game demands a good amount of skill and at least some knowledge of cars. This is NOT a game for someone who thinks a Ford Mustang is a horse, or thinks a Lamborghini is an alchoholic beverage. Seriously, this game is very well done and is more realistic than other imitators.

HINTS AND SECRETS: Purchase a minimal number of cars! I recommend you start with the Mazda Demio- don't be fooled by its apparently weak stats. If you want to go through the game with an FF car, use the Acura (Honda) Integra. If you want to go with an FR car, use the BMW Z4, or if you manage to beat the FF only race with your Demio, use the Yellow Bird LM Edition. If you can avoid 4WD, with one exception: Subaru's Impreza Sedan WRX and Impreza Rally. The Impreza Rally is already maxed out, but runs you 500,000cr. If you manage to beat the World Championship, you get access to Pontiac, Lamborghini, Lotus, McLaren, Suzuki, and Ferrari!

I really liked this game a lot when I first downloaded it. I was addicted to "Gran Tourismo" for a very long time, and it was a real joy to play. The graphics are really great, the menu is great, and it is an all-around awesome game. I think you should definitely try this game. Sadly, there are a few flaws I see with the game. While I totally love everything else about the game and absolutely commend the author for making this, I believe that a more realistic engine could be implemented along with wall-friction before it deserves the plethora of "tens" it has been receiving.

The car you drive in this game has a constant rate of rotation, even when it is stopped (!?). If the author created an engine that took the moment of inertia and friction due to the individual tires on the road into consideration for determining angular rate and acceleration, we'd be looking at a much more realistic game. In addition, one should also be able to recover from spinouts with correct reverse steering without having to come to a complete stop. If one is moving slowly and turning slowly, then when skidding, the car should be moving just as slow or more slowly and turning just as slow or more slowly. Lastly, if one scrapes lightly against a wall, they shouldn't come to a complete stop, but should decelerate only. Even when a car scrapes against a uniform wall at a great angle, it ought to slide a bit. Of course smashing into trees generally causes near-immediate halts, which the programmer is correct to implement. I just found it unbearable every time that I was driving on the “High Speed Ring” course at approximately 200mph that brushing the wall forced me to a complete stop in the next instant.

I doubt that any of these changes suggested by myself could be considered simple, so I'd be very impressed if the programmer made any of these changes to the program. I have no clue how one could go about implementing wall-friction if collision detection seems to be based on a pixel-by pixel basis. (Jagged edges look like on-coming walls). Perhaps simple boundaries would have to be used.

Besides that, it's a great program to download and try, especially for pre v1.0. It' can be tough to play, but it is fun to master.

Another great game for the 89 and worth the download. It reminds me of MegaCar for the 83+. I try to save a lot of space on my calculator for my own personal use (programming of course!) but this is one of the few games that I keep around. It just keeps getting better! Worth the download. An excellent game!

In my opinion, this is the best game so far that I have seen on ticalc.org. Even for those of us who know nothing about cars and have never played a different Gran Tourismo game, this game is great.

The gameplay is amazing, and the licensing system is done incredibly well. This game requires a lot of skill, and the license system is set up so you can build up skill before doing the large races that require it. Sometimes, to get a license, you will have to do the same track many times to time each curve or to learn where to start braking, but even after you get the license, the track somehow manages to still be challenging. It doesn't get old either, because each car is different, and when you get better cars, you eventually learn how the car handles so you can win more races and get better cars.

The graphics are some of the best I've seen on a calculator. The tracks are in full grayscale with billboards, grandstands, and trees on the side of the racetrack.

The only odd thing is the physics. If you hit a wall, you stop instantly, with no rebound, no sliding; you simply stop if you hit one. Also, your car and enemy cars can exist in the same location, but these really don't detract from the game.

This game is incredibly time-consuming if you have time to waste. You will continue playing through the races with different cars, figuring out which configuration works best for you, and trying to buy bigger and better cars. I've played this game for a long time, and I still haven't beat the Gran Tourismo or World Championship races...

This game is AWESOME. It is very true to the PSX Gran Turismo games with 14 different car manufacturers and maybe 50 different cars for sale, in new and used versions. You can make all of the standard adjustments and upgrades like turbo kits, NA tuning, mufflers, tires, weight reduction, set gear ratios and more. Like the original version, you have to earn varying licenses to participate in races and the license tests are a challenge, but still fun and rewarding.

The game's physics are very realistic and the graphics are high-quality grayscale, with a lot of detail. The game itself is very challenging, and car adjustments make a noticeable difference, as does the cars drive train, either FF, FR, or 4WD.

This game is lots of fun, and supports multiple custom-named external save files and link-play, so you can swap save files with your friends and race against them over the link. This game is a must-have, and is in fact the only calculator game I have found myself playing for extended periods of time while at home sitting in front of my computer.
