This game was a perfect ten for me, I found the gameplay to be smooth, easy to figure out, and most importantly fun. Who couldn't have fun blasting an array of random characters into oblivion? With two weapons choices, several bot difficulty levels, up to 5 bots, and a couple of different modes of play, including !capture the flag! this game has it all. Beautiful grayscale graphics and speed like most calc FPS's can't dream of.
I played this game for hours at a time sometimes. The bots AI is excellent. On top of all this, this game even has a level editor, and on top of that, the editor is packaged up in a self installer, so it's very easy to use. If you have got a TI-89, TI-92+ or a Voyage 200, you are seriously missing out if you don't download this.
Although, it could use a few more weapons. |

When I first saw this game, I knew I just had to have it! All the FPS action without a boring storyline or ridiculous theme? O-Right! This is truly a great game. The graphics are superb, especially the nice wall textures. The gameplay is smooth, the program runs really fast, and the hit detection is spot on!
My only complaint is that even though this is a nostub program, it only runs when I have PreOs installed. I have no clue why, but without PreOs, I get the "black bar of death", requiring me to remove the batteries to reset the calculator.
Even with this one particularly nasty bug, this game still gets a 9.5/10 for its sheer superbness! |

I could not believe my eyes when I first saw the Arena 3D screenshots! I immediately downloaded this game, and it didn't leave my 89T since.
Arena 3D offers many options, allowing it to be playable both as a quick game or as a longer series of rounds. You can face up to 5 bots ranging in skill, so you will never get bored or be left without a challenge. You can also define the keypad to what keys suit you best.
The game is very fast, with richly detailed graphics and textures. It comes with many maps, and of course with a level editor, where you can create your own levels.
I can't wait for updates where you'll be able to choose from more weapons - even though the Rocket Launcher is a smash hit anyway.
This game gets a 10/10! It has amazing graphics, very fast game play, good variety, and a very strong replay value. Besides, it never once crashed my calculator - truly a dream game! |

Overall rating:9/10
Arena 3D is a very nice first person shooter for the 89. The AI is very nice, movement is smooth, the levels are well done, and the variety of options is great. There is also a lot of replay value because there is no story, so you can play it fast and not have to worry about getting items and such. This allows focus more on the whole point of first person shooters: to kill the aliens! Arena 3D is a great game. |

Note! This review was written for a previous version of this file!
When I first downloaded this game, I was skeptical about the quality - it seemed too good to be true. Once I began to play, however, I was awed by the complexity of the graphics, the excellent AI, and the fast gameplay. The raycasting is exceptional, smooth, and flicker less, while the AI handles up to 5 bots without a hitch. A variety of modes, including tournament and capture the flag add interest and hours of play to the game. Finally, the 3D graphics of this game were unbelievable.
My only criticism of this game is a bug that occasionally causes it to crash, clearing the RAM. Since it is archived, it does not delete Arena 3D, but I program and several works in progress were lost this way. If this bug were to be eliminated, this would be an outstanding achievement.
Score: 9/10 |
