Gemini is one of the best (if not the best) First-Person Shooters for the TI-83+ family. However, being top dog doesn't necessarily mean being flawless, as this review will show.
Controls: 10/10
2nd/Mode to shoot, Alpha and XTON to strafe, arrow keys to move, Del to open doors, and Clear to quit. How much easier can it get for a FPS?
Graphics: 9/10
The graphics are very good on for this game, but the distortion of the enemies from far away can be a little confusing at times.
Gameplay: 9/10
Turning is smooth, guns are very well represented, and the AI isn't as stupid as in some other FPS games. However, aiming with the guns can be pretty hard, especially with the pinpoint aim of the pistol (aiming is much easier when shooting with something that has a minor spray, like the shotgun).
Story: 7/10
The story isn't the main aspect of this game, and it clearly shows. With a very cliche FPS storyline (aliens are trying to take over... again) and only 4 levels (even if all 4 are pretty large), this isn't what you would call a story masterpiece.
Replayability: 10/10
Even if this game is pretty short at only 4 levels, each is littered with all kinds of secrets. Even I spent very long hours trying to find every secret on every level. Some of my favorite secrets are the ones on level 3, as they are hidden extremely well. Hint: if you search very well, especially at corners, you'll have an alien blaster by level 3.
Size: 8/10
At a whopping 23kB all in one program, this game can be hard to play if your RAM drops below 24kB at any time. Some people with decent assembly knowledge have even hacked into the source and split the levels from the main game so they wouldn't have to unarchive 2 things at once (the levels don't need to be in the RAM). I've seen bigger games, though, that were way worse than this game.
Overall: 8.8/10
This game only received such a low score because of the story issues. If I were to disregard the story in this game, this game would receive a 9.2/10 instead of 8.8/10. However, the storyline can be very important in some games, and I am especially sensitive to games with a very good storyline.
