Graphics: 10/10 Really good for BASIC
Gameplay: 8/10 Once you get used to the menu and the slow key detection that happens sometimes, it's good. This game has over 100 features!!!!!
Storyline: 9/10 Good story
Replay value: 9/10 if you like Final Fantasy VII, you will probably play FFA for the rest of your life (well, until you lose interest on calculators)
Overall: 9/10: This is the best TI-89 RPG I ever saw!!! |

Final Fantasy Alternative is the absolute best basic game so far - better than many of the ASM games. This is a full length RPG based on the Final Fantasy series. Tons of monsters, materia, level growth, chocobo races, chocobo breeding, battle arena, and more! It is far superior to any other basic game I've seen. I rate it 10/10. |

If you like RPGs, then Final Fantasy Alternative (FFA) is a must download. David Coz has created a full length RPG based on the "Final Fantasy" series that has a ton of features. The battle system is very well designed and very easy to learn. There are a variety of attacks that you can perform, from simple attacks to magic spells to using items to help you out. And of course, there is a "limit" attack system (from one of the FF games, I think it was FF7) that allows you to perform a powerful attack when the bar reaches the limit.
So, what about moving around? Well, though FFA is written in BASIC and does feel a little slow, do not fret, because though it may take a little getting used to, moving your character around in the game is not too bad at all. There are tons of things to explore in the game, including the surroundings. Don't forget to go up to various objects and hit enter! There are several towns and dungeons to explore, including a "random attack" system that will keep you on your toes.
There are also a variety of sidequests to keep you occupied, including training and racing chocobos, as well as a battle challenge area that allows you to fight various NPCs.
The graphics for FFA are amazing, especially considering they're running in BASIC. The attacks are animated as well, which adds to the fun of playing it!
Overall, this is a well-written, well-designed RPG for the TI-89. If you want a game that will keep you occupied for awhile and that has an interesting plot, I recommend downloading FFA. |
