Command to Conquer is a commendable remake of the game of a similar name for PC. Considering the hardware limitations of a TI-89, the creator did an exceptional job. There are a number of units and buildings, and the enemy AI is challenging. The game runs almost exactly the same as the PC version, though the arrow keys are slightly difficult to use as a mouse. The game runs quickly, but a little speed boost would be nice. The grayscale doesn't seem to work on the patched version on my 89 Titanium, but it looks good on the screenshots.
With a couple minor upgrades and a few more levels, C2C would be perfect. Rating: 9/10 |

First of all, I would like to say that I am very impressed that someone could make a RTS game for the TI-89. The games graphics look nice and the controls are pretty easy to get used to.
On the bad side, your units are dumb. I had to baby-sit my units to get them to a certain spot on the map. If there is say, a wall in front of them they have trouble going around it. It would be great if that problem were fixed. Also, units should respond when they are being fired upon without you having to tell them.
7/10 - You should at least give it a shot. |

The thing I like about this version of Command to Conquer is its outstanding graphics and AI. A cool thing I like to do when playing this game is to arrange Advanced Gaurd Towers and Rocket Launchers in a nice, neat little line and watch them wipe out the tireless AI. One problem with this game is that periodically my harvesters will suddenly stop harvesting, and I have a real hard time ordering them to get a move on. The Pathfinding is okay, but sometimes Units start going in circles; you have to manually direct them by setting multiple destinations for them sometimes.
Graphics--9.5/10Excellent, but crowded sometimes Speed--8/10--Sometimes, for reasons unknown, the game inexplicably slows to turtle speed Replayability--10/10Level Editor! Controls--10/10Designed and laid out excellently
Overall--9.5/10--Download this game! |

I have never been one to play strategy games for too long, I tend to get bored after twenty minutes. However, when I picked up "Real-time Command to Conquer" (CTC2), that changed. I was suddenly thrust into a world of real-time combat, where I had to setup a base, build various legions, and try to destroy all of my enemies troops, possessions, and whatever else was built. And somewhere in that process, I had to develop a strategy if I wanted a shot at winning.
So, what are the strengths of CTC2? Graphically, it is amazing. I always felt like I was playing a really well designed strategy game. The speed of the program is excellent as well. I never really felt as if I was lagging while I was trying to move around the map. Sometimes I felt as if there wasn't a faster way to move around the map, but it did not really hinder my enjoyment of the game. And then there is the gameplay itself. I really had to think while playing CTC2. There were some missions where I knew that if I waited it out, I could win, and likewise, there were some missions where I just totally got destroyed, probably because of my lack of strategy. Some of my games would take hours to complete, so it kept me entertained. What's more, CTC2 comes with a map editor, so you can create your own missions and challenge yourself or your friends. The controls in CTC2 aren't too hard to learn, though they do take some practice, but once you get going, it's not too hard to carry out a quick command.
There are relatively few weaknesses in CTC2, being the rare calculator freeze or frustration from not being able to win. Overall, CTC2 is an excellently designed game, and even if you don't like strategy games, you should still try this out. |
